Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update 7

Dear parent/carer,

I would like to give you a further update on the following steps being taken by the school in light of the Coronavirus (COVID -19) outbreak.

Key Workers
You will know from our communications on Friday that South Lanarkshire Council were asked by the NHS if they could open their buildings on Monday and Tuesday to children of defined key workers for the purposes of continuity of childcare.
Further to this the Council have now extended the provision on Monday and Tuesday to the children of all emergency service workers, ie. NHS staff, police, fire and rescue, ambulance and the prison service.
This is only open to the above families whose children are well and healthy and who cannot secure personal, alternative childcare arrangements. Those category 1 key workers who are eligible should only use the service in circumstances where they have no other childcare provision.
Children of category 1 key workers with underlying health conditions or who are currently self isolating should not attend.
For the parents whose child will attend please be reassured that at this very difficult and unsettling time my staff and I will ensure your child is supported and cared for.
I have had a number of parents contact me due to the difficulty of managing child care and their work. Whilst I am wholly sympathetic and appreciate the difficulty of everyone’s personal situation, I would stress that the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children of category 1 key workers who absolutely need to attend. Please, please, please do not attend if you are not one of the key workers defined above. Ultimately, this is to reduce social contact, reduce the spread of the virus and save lives within our community.
In order to facilitate planning for Monday could all category 1 key worker parents email me at gw14stcolumpsht@glow.sch.uk with the details of children who will be in attendance and their key worker role.
As planning develops, after Tuesday, the council will look at provision for some other key workers that are delivering essential services. I will advise all parents of this through the usual channels.
Arrangements for Monday
Children of category 1 key workers should enter the school building at the main office for 9am. Please note, the bottom gate on Parkhill Drive will be closed. Can I ask that all parents speak to a member of staff before leaving. Normal break and lunch arrangements will be in place.
Any child who is eligible for free school meals is welcome to attend between 12 and 1.30pm. Can all parents of children who will attend please email me at gw14stcolumpsht@glow.sch.uk and advise me of your attendance. This is to assist with the organisation of lunchtime and also to ensure that the correct social distancing measures are in place for the health and safety of everyone.
Throughout this time if there is any family who is experiencing difficulties accessing food etc please contact me and the school will support you and your family as much as we possibly can.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support.
Kindest regards

Andy Gray
Head Teacher
